Prized Peony Sympathy Card using Reverse Masking Technique

 Hi Stampers!

Well, 2020 is a year of many firsts for me!  I have been doing Stamp Club and classes out of my home for almost 3 years now.  I was comfortable with that format and have a cherished group of ladies that have become dear friends that I LOVE to craft with.  However, thanks to COVID-19, I have had to change the way I craft with others.  So, I did my first Facebook Live back at the end of March 2020.  That made me a nervous wreck!  But it was fun and got me crafting with others again.  Then I discovered Zoom and started doing classes and stamp clubs that way.  The gang was back together, even though apart!  They are a little more challenging than meeting at my house, coordinating everyone to get the same supplies to use together.  But they are so much fun and I have friends to craft with again!

Last Saturday I did my first Youtube Premier class.  It was less stressful than a Facebook Live as it was pre-recorded, so I could just join and moderate comments and watch myself on video along with everyone else.  That was a little strange, and hard not to be critical of every little mistake I saw myself make!  Yes, many firsts during this crazy Covid-19 pandemic; and now I can add a new blog to the list!

I have been working to get one going for a while, and now here it is!  I will be posting the 3 cards I did in class throughout the week this week.  My goal is to post new projects at least once a week.  Once I get a schedule down, I will post the planned schedule.  So who knows what I will do next?!?  I look forward to the day I can host classes in person again.  However, this has opened up new avenues that I will likely keep going to some degree even after Covid-19.  Hopefully I can blend the two together.  Time will tell; the sky's the limit!

Today's card used the Prized Peony bundle and a technique called reverse masking.

The sponged oval shape is the reversed masking technique.  For the card front, I made a reverse mask from a full sheet of copy paper by cutting an oval out and placing it over the card front Whisper White panel and sponged the oval opening with Blushing Bride ink and stamped the large peony flower in Gray Granite ink; the "Reversed Mask".  I removed the copy paper and covered the stamped image with oval cut from the mask.  I used the diamond pattern from the set to stamp random images around the panel, stamped off twice, in Gray Granite ink.  Next, I sponged lightly over this with Gray Granite ink and a Stampin' Sponge.  After adhering it to a panel of Peony Garden Designer Series Paper (DSP), I wrapped some of the gorgeous Gray Granite Shimmer ribbon across the bottom then adhered the panel on a Blushing Bride card base.  I stamped a sentiment in Gray Granite ink on a scrap of Whisper White and die cut it and Blushing Bride scrap with one of the Stitched So Sweetly cute little dies.  I cut the Blushing Bride piece vertically in half with Paper Snips to allow it to show on each end behind the sentiment and adhered it with Mini Glue dots, then centered and placed the sentiment over the ribbon with dimensionals.  The final step for the card front was to place some Petal Pink Elegant Faceted Gems randomly around the card and on each side of the sentiment.

For the card inside I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Whisper White cardstock in Gray Granite ink and stamped the small flower in the lower left corner that I had inked up using Stamin' Write markers.  I adhered this to a Gray Granite mat, then adhered this to the card inside and the card was done!

As a last step I repeated the same inking and stamping of the flower pattern in the lower left of the envelope front, then used Tombow glue to adhere a coordinating piece of Peony Garden DSP on the envelope flap.

And there you have it!  Card one of three that we did in class was done!  You can watch the video if you want to see how I put it together.  The link to the video is below.  If you want to replicate this card, all the Stampin' Up! products you need are listed below as well as all the card measurements.

I will have the remaining two cards I showed in the video blogged throughout the week.  I absolutely love this Gorgeous Peony Suite and I hope you do too!  This set makes such beautiful cards, I hope you will give them a try!  Let me know if you do, and I would love to see what you create!

Until next time..

Happy Stamping!

Laurie
